Business services are activities that support a business but do not produce a tangible product. Examples include information technology, accounting, shipping, and financial services.

Companies that provide business services can offer many advantages to businesses. These can include access to specialized expertise and knowledge, cost-effectiveness, and flexibility. Additionally, business services can help foster innovation by bringing new perspectives and approaches to a company’s operations.

Service Design

A key challenge for a service-business is designing the experience that will attract and retain customers. This differs from design for products, as the customer experience must meet both functional and emotional needs. This requires a shift in perspective from product designers, who think about the characteristics that buyers will value, to service designers, who focus on how to create experiences that are both attractive and valuable.

Access to Specialized Expertise

Outsourcing some or all of a company’s non-core functions can free up resources to focus on core competencies, increasing overall efficiency and profitability. In addition, outsourcing can reduce overhead costs and allow a company to scale up or down quickly in response to changing market conditions.

ScienceLogic offers two ways to manage and monitor business services: syncing services between ServiceNow and SL1, and creating custom syncing models in SL1. Both approaches display the same basic information for each service, including name, description, organization, contact, availability, health, risk, and policy. A service can also be marked as favorite (a star icon) so that it always displays at the top of the Business Services page and is included in the multi-sort function.
