Automobiles

Automobiles are wheeled vehicles that carry people and provide a major means of transport. They are designed to run primarily on road systems and have seats for one to seven passengers. Most automobiles are powered by internal combustion engines which send energy to the wheels through an axle, either via chemical (gasoline) or electrical (battery) means. An important aspect of an automobile is the body, which gives it shape and room for passengers and storage.

OPENS UP THE WORLD

With the invention of automobiles, it became possible for people to move around in their communities and beyond. This allowed for more work opportunities, more places to live, and a greater range of leisure activities and services.

A GIFT TO US

Although there were earlier attempts at steam cars in Great Britain by Santler from Malvern and Frederick William Lanchester, Karl Benz is often credited with creating the first modern automobile using a four-stroke internal combustion engine. This was in 1885/1886. He then began making and selling them in a factory.

Automobiles have many benefits but also pose several threats. For example, they emit harmful chemicals in the air which can cause damage to our environment. They are also a source of noise pollution and can even lead to death if traveling at high speeds. In addition, they can be a dangerous weapon in the hands of a criminal or terrorist. As such, they have given rise to new laws and government requirements like seatbelts and traffic rules.
