Hong Kong Lottery Winners Get a Free Flight to Hong Kong

The lottery is run by the Hong Kong Jockey Club – a massive horse racing organization and one of the largest in the world. The HKJC is authorized by the Hong Kong government to operate the lottery alongside its primary business. HKJC is the single largest tax payer in the country and accounts for 6.5% of the total taxes collected by the Hong Kong government.
Customs officers have been assigned to manually check the winning tickets and are seeking legal advice from the Department of Justice to determine if the winners will be eligible to receive their prize money. Those who are found to have won the free flight ticket will have to pay any associated surcharges and fees.
Those who win the free plane tickets will be able to use them for flights between March 1 and June 30. The tickets will be awarded in three waves, with those traveling from Southeast Asia being eligible to apply first, followed by people in mainland China and then residents from the rest of the world.
In addition to the free flights, Hong Kong will provide welcome packs for arriving tourists that include vouchers for discounts across 1500 attractions and services in the city. The campaign is expected to bring in additional tourists and boost the economy.
